Present Pain
Being fully immersed in a moment can be painful.
So absorbed in the present, it hurts.
An absolute giving up of yourself to the now.
A surrender.
Painful to experience each moment fleeing, becoming a mental image.
To be remembered, perhaps forgotten, and never relived.
So fully immersed in this moment you mark time in breathes.
An expanding and contracting chest.
Lovingly watching each inhale.
Understanding each exhale draws expiration closer.
So present you want to hold tightly to this moment, never ever let it go.
Plead with the watchmaker for a single pause. Only one.
If only to feel, savor the immensity of it a bit longer.
A complication of time.
Overwhelmed by the present, tortured by its passing.
Trying to exhale like you inhale.
There is a price to be paid for every increase in consciousness.
We cannot be more sensitive to pleasure without being more sensitive to pain.
