How to distinguish between desire and intuition?

I

Desire may feel like a push.
A craving, a striving.
It may result from desperation,
Seeking “escape” from the familiar, routine, unpleasant.

Intuition may feel like a pull.
Compelling, from the opposite direction.
An irresistible call,
Genuine, resounding, undeniable.

II

We can turn away from desire,
We are unable to quiet intuition.

III

Perhaps, time is the distinguishing factor.

Desire disappears with time.
It is fragile, fickle, superficial,
Governed by circumstance, subject to change.

Intuition seems timely and timeless,
Arriving at precise moments, again and again.
Inviting curiosity, asking for commitment.

IV

One washes away with a wave,
One feels like the ocean.

V

When something returns to you again and again, how do you respond?
