Clarity and Confidence
We may already know what to do next, and be afraid of doing it.
Afraid of the uncertainty. Fear of the unknown.
Sometimes, it’s less about seeking clarity.
We are clear, and lack confidence.
Clarity is something others can help us with - we can learn from their experience, gain insight, perspectives, ask for help, understand risks. Confidence (or courage) ultimately comes from within - we decide whether we will, or can.
It may be important to identify where we are on the spectrum. Are we seeking clarity or lacking confidence?
Here are questions I ask myself:
Am I starting to explore something new, or seeking encouragement?
Do I have very little information, or enough information?
Am I driven by my curiosity, or slowed by what I don’t know?
How much time have I invested learning about my new idea (external), and how much time anxiously obsessing over it (internal)?
Where is the risk higher right now - waiting to learn more, or knowing enough and not deciding?
We may find ourselves somewhere in between. Seeking clarity to convince ourselves.
Here’s what I remind myself
More information increases confidence, not accuracy.
